Tim Johnson
Appointed September 2022
Tim has 17 years experience of working in the criminal justice system. Prior to that he worked in a variety of procurement and contract management roles for technology and financial services organisations including BT, Sony and LV. Tim had a change of career in 2005 when he joined the Probation officer training programme, qualifying in 2005 with a first class honours degree.
During his time with Probation, Tim’s responsibilities were varied including case management work. This involved supervising people on probation in the community who were on licence or subject to community sentences. He also completed a placement in a prison, represented probation in court and parole settings and delivered accredited offending behaviour programmes. He later specialised in the management of offenders subject to multi-agency public protection arrangements (MAPPA). In 2016 Tim was seconded to Circles South West on a part time basis for two years and was responsible for coordinating circles in Dorset.
Tim has managed operational teams in the National Probation Service including an offender management team and court & assessment team. He was also the MAPPA Coordinator for Dorset, responsible for bringing together multi-agency teams to ensure that eligible offenders in the community were appropriately assessed and managed in order to protect the public. In this role he chaired MAPPA meetings and worked closely with agencies across the South West to manage and support young people and adults in the criminal justice system.
Tim joined Circles South West in August 2022 after leaving his role as Service Manager with HMPPS where he was responsible for managing suppliers delivering community rehabilitative services to people on probation across the South West.
Tim is now a Circles Coordinator covering Wiltshire and our Young People’s Services in Dorset.
When not at work, Tim loves being out in the great outdoors – either with his dogs, on his bike or going for a run.
