Delivering circles of support and accountability to protect communities from sexual harm and sexual reoffending

Jackie Citron

The Young People’s Service being delivered by Jackie Citron, our Young People’s Service (YPS) Coordinator who joined Circles South West in 2016.

Jackie has driven the development of our YPS and has to date established and coordinated 16 Circles for young people convicted of sexual offences and/or with HSB. 3 Circles have completed successfully to date each having run for just over a year, there are 7 active YP Circles in the Bristol area. 6 Circles ended prematurely; 2 where the young people moved out of area, and 4 YPs disengaged from the process soon after their Initial Circle meetings. Overall however, the first 2 years have been extremely positive and much has been learnt that can be taken forward. A YPS promotional film has been produced with input from two Core Members and a foster carer.

In September 2017, Jackie became the VCSE Advocate for Voscur at the Bristol Safeguarding Children’s Board. Before joining Circles South West, Jackie was the Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Coordinator for North Somerset Council; a strategic role involving chairing the CSE Subgroup and developing policy and practice in relation to CSE. Prior to this she spent 12 years as a Youth Justice Officer at South Gloucestershire YOT where she developed a specialism working with adolescents with HSB. In 2013 she was seconded into the Bristol Be Safe Service to implement and deliver the lottery funded Children’s Programme for children with problematic sexual behaviour. Jackie attained a Diploma in Probation Studies in 2004. In 2014 she attained a Distinction from UCLAN having completed a Professional Certificate in ‘Advanced Practitioner Topics with Sex offenders.
