Cody Porter

Dr Cody Porter is a Psychologist who specialises in investigative interviewing, mental health, and barriers to employability.
Dr Porter completed her first degree in Psychology at Bangor University, before moving to Portsmouth to complete an MSc Forensic Psychology, and then a PhD Psychology. She then became a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
As an academic Dr Porter has taught in both Criminology and Psychology departments. Currently, she is a senior lecturer in psychology at the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol, where she manages the undergraduate psychology programmes.
Dr Porter’s research focuses investigative interviewing and lie detection. She sits on the scientific committee at the International Investigative Interviewing Research Group (iIIRG) and is a deputy editor for Investigative Interviewing Research and Practice (II-RP). She also conducts research on employability barriers for those with a criminal record. Part of this research focus is for those who have sexual offence convictions. To support this, Dr Porter is also a member of NOTA.
Dr Porter has a number of academic outputs, including 15+ academic publications (journal articles, book chapters, external research reports, and professional/practitioner publications) and 40+ conference presentations (including as the keynote speaker). She has also been an invited speaker by several organisations, including HMPPS, Together for Childhood, Thames Valley Police, and the Defence School of Policing.
