Delivering circles of support and accountability to protect communities from sexual harm and sexual reoffending

Volunteer

Gloucestershire volunteers needed

Circles South West operate all over the South West from Cornwall across to Dorset and up to Gloucestershire. Our Gloucestershire service is growing and so we are looking for volunteers to join our team immediately in this area.

In Gloucestershire as at March 2022  (most recent figures available) there were 623 people on the Sex Offenders Register.  Research confirms that in 2021 over 850 people were arrested every month across the UK for viewing Child Sexual Abuse material.  Circles South West offer a ‘Circle of Support and Accountability’ over a 12-18 month period using specially selected and trained local community volunteers with the objective of monitoring and supporting the person who has offended.

Volunteers work together under close supervision from a Circle Coordinator to meet this person regularly to support and encourage safe rehabilitation and this work feeds into the statutory supervision of the ex-offender.  This model has proven a very effective way to prevent further sexual offending thereby increasing the safety of our communities (see our website for more extensive information).

Community volunteers have never been more needed and we are actively seeking to recruit open minded, mature individuals from across Gloucestershire who have an interest in protecting their community/working with this type of offender to reduce the devasting harm of sexual offending.

Volunteers must be able to commit to 2 hours per week for 12 months. You will require two references and we will provide you with an Enhanced DBS check. We provide full training, professional support and reimbursement of expenses.

If you feel like this may be something you are interested in then please get in touch with Lucy Graham, Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteering@circlessw.org.uk or call on 07738 947988.
